In the world of perfume, notes are the essences assembled to create a unique perfume. The legend says that it is the very last, the famous 13th Note, that allows each of the other notes to melt, to harmonize and to transcend, to give the perfume its incredible and provocative power.
In numerology the number 13 is magic! The Ultimate note, whether in jazz or in perfumes, the thirteenth note is the one that perfects, that transforms, that allows flawless harmonies to reach a superior dimension, a dimension where magic intervenes to create unique and unforgettable sensations (inspired by the 13th note in Patrick Süskind’s book “The Perfume.”)
Moved to look beyond the usual limits, Mr. Rolland asked the great French chef René BERGÈS of Aix-en-Provence to share his knowledge of savours with us in our quest to find notes and accords that are completely original in perfumery.
There is a story that tells of an amphora found one day in the tomb of a pharaoh. Once it was opened it released a perfume so potent that after thousands of years it still retained its subtle beauty.. 12 essences could be identified, but the 13th essence, the vital one… still remained a mystery.
It is this legend that inspired Patrick Suskind to write his book, The Perfume., and Pascal Rolland to celebrate the legend by creating two perfumes named .The 13th Note… one for women and one for men. Moved to reach creatively beyond the classic limits, Pascal asked the great French chef Rene Berges of Aix-en-Provence to share his knowledge of flavors and savouries and help in the quest of new perfume.
This new approach resulted in two exceptional perfumes : The feminine fragrance is a sweet floral bouquet inspired by one of Chef Berges’ desserts, an audacious dish of fruits and flowers. A unique, sensual, delicious and enchanting perfume that dresses a woman in an irrepressible desire…to indulge!
The masculine fragrance, fresh, aromatic, and spicy, is inspired by another of the chef’s dishes. Subtle and sophisticated, it is an exclusive and unique perfume that blends mystery, elegance and intensity. In order to reveal the perfect balance and refinement of this perfume, allow it to blend with your own skin’s chemistry for five minutes before smelling it.
The team of perfumer, liqueur-maker and chef have allowed for a fusion of passion and skill around flavors and savors. The fruit of their labor are two perfumes that raise perfumery to a new height: the famous 13th note that opens a fresh path in the enchanted world of high-end perfumery.
René BERGÈS is a Provençal master chef. Passionate about plants, star-rated in the Michelin guide for many years with the restaurant “LE RELAIS SAINTE-VICTOIRE” (below the Sainte-Victoire mountain so dear to Cézanne).
He now devotes himself exclusively to research and the training of young cooks. His children keep the family tradition alive at the “Table de Beaurcueil”, a few steps away from the former restaurant.
